Canine Cuisine: Cooking Up Healthy and Tasty Homemade Treats for Your San Diego Pup
Hey there, fellow San Diego dog lovers! Today, we're cooking up something special for your furry pals. We know how much you adore your dogs, and we want to ensure they get the very best – starting with their treats! Here at Pat’s Pack, we love using treats as a great motivator for our pups in training. Store-bought goodies may seem convenient, but homemade treats are where the magic happens. In this blog post, we'll share some of our favorite dog treat recipes using wholesome ingredients that will have your pup's tail wagging with joy!
First up, Peanut Butter Pumpkin Bites, yum!:
Ingredients:
1 cup pumpkin puree
1/4 cup natural peanut butter (unsalted)
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup water (as needed)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin puree and peanut butter until well blended.
Gradually add the whole wheat flour and cinnamon to the wet ingredients, mixing until it forms a dough. If the dough is too dry, add water a little at a time until the mixture comes together.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface and use a cookie cutter to create bite-sized treats.
Place the treats on the baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Let the treats cool completely before serving them to your pup.
Next, Blueberry Banana Biscuits:
Ingredients:
1 ripe banana, mashed
1/2 cup fresh blueberries
1/4 cup coconut oil (melted)
2 cups oat flour
1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed banana, blueberries, and melted coconut oil.
Gradually add the oat flour to the wet ingredients, stirring until it forms a dough.
Roll out the dough and use a cookie cutter to create biscuits of your desired shape and size.
Place the biscuits on the baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until firm and lightly browned.
Let the biscuits cool, then dip them in plain Greek yogurt for an extra special treat.
Third, Sweet Potato Chews:
Ingredients:
2 large sweet potatoes
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Wash and peel the sweet potatoes, then slice them into thin strips (about 1/4 inch thick).
Place the sweet potato slices on the baking sheet, ensuring they are not overlapping.
Bake the sweet potato slices for about 2-3 hours, flipping them halfway through, until they are dry and chewy.
Let the sweet potato chews cool completely before giving them to your pup.
