Tips for Keeping Your Dog Safe This Summer

Here at Pat’s Pack HQ in San Diego, CA, and throughout the country summer is officially upon us! As the temperature rises, it's important to take extra precautions to ensure your dog stays safe and comfortable. Here are some tips to help you and your pup have a fun and safe summer:

Stay Hydrated: Make sure to bring plenty of water for both you and your dog on walks or outings. Add ice cubes to keep it cool and refreshing.

Cool Off: Give your dog a cool place to rest and relax, such as a shaded area, a kiddie pool, or a cooling mat.

Protect from Sunburn: Just like humans, dogs can get sunburned too. Apply sunscreen to your dog's ears, nose, and other exposed areas when spending time in the sun.

Watch for Heatstroke: Dogs can quickly overheat in the summer, so it's important to watch for signs of heatstroke such as excessive panting, lethargy, and drooling.

Use the "Heel" Command: Teach your dog to walk next to you using the "heel" command to avoid hot pavement and other potential hazards.

Keep Your Dog Entertained: Set up a fun obstacle course or play fetch with your dog in the shade to keep them entertained and mentally stimulated.

Remember, a well-trained dog is a safer dog. Consider working with a dog training consultant to improve your dog's behavior and cognition. Stay safe and enjoy the summer with your furry friend!
